A sage, a guru, a soothsayer. Every good gym has an individual whose life experience has molded him into a walking body of wisdom. For us here at JD’s Gym, that individual is Jerry Cooper. Jerry is a man with decades of training in karate, boxing, motocross racing, cycling, and weightlifting. He competed at some of the highest levels in each discipline and won a number of accolades including the 1990 State Championship in cycling.
What we love about Jerry is not only his willingness to share this wealth of knowledge to anyone who is interested, but the kind and helpful manner in which he instructs. He truly embodies the family-like, everyone helping everyone spirit of JD’s Gym. As our resident boxing instructor, Jerry is definitely the man to see if you need help with your striking.
Since joining the gym, Jerry is happy that even at 60 years old his training enables him to still go 10+ rounds with the younger guys. He also is committed to always continuing and improving his own education, training, and technique. He just recently started taking Wing Chun/self-defense classes here at the gym, which is a fun, new challenge for him. More than anything, Jerry is most proud of his ability to help here at the gym. We are lucky to have him as a member. Congrats Jerry.
